Petrol Price Unchanged, Diesel Sees Hike in Pakistan – September 2025 Update

The federal government has announced a minor change in petroleum prices for the second half of September 2025. According to the official notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of petrol will remain unchanged, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been slightly increased.

Petrol Price Remains Unchanged

The government has kept the price of petrol stable to provide relief to the general public, especially those dependent on petrol for motorcycles, cars, and small vehicles. This decision is expected to benefit millions of daily commuters across the country.

Diesel Price Increased

On the other hand, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has increased slightly. Diesel is widely used in the agricultural and transportation sectors, and any change in its price directly impacts the cost of goods as well as farming activities. The government stated that the adjustment was necessary due to fluctuations in international oil prices.

Updated Petroleum Prices in September 2025

The new prices effective from September 16, 2025, are as follows:

ProductOld Price (PKR/Ltr)New Price (PKR/Ltr)Change (PKR)
Petrol293.94293.940.00
High-Speed Diesel (HSD)290.38293.99+3.61
Kerosene Oil192.00192.000.00
Light Diesel Oil (LDO)174.50174.500.00

Government’s Reasoning

The Ministry of Finance explained that this revision was based on recommendations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The global market saw a rise in diesel prices, while petrol remained comparatively stable. To balance the impact on the economy, the government opted to increase diesel prices slightly but avoided burdening citizens further with petrol hikes.

Public Reaction

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions. Citizens welcomed the decision to maintain petrol prices, as petrol directly affects daily commuters. However, transporters and farmers expressed concerns over the rise in diesel rates, fearing it may lead to increased inflation in essential goods.

Conclusion

The government’s decision to keep petrol prices unchanged while raising diesel rates highlights its balancing act between public relief and economic realities. While commuters may feel some relief, the transport and agriculture sectors could face added challenges due to the diesel price hike. The next petroleum price review will determine whether the trend of minor adjustments continues in the coming months.
